Women's History Month Trivia Night

Women's History Month Trivia Night is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of women in politics, science, arts, and culture. Each year our team of organizers host a trivia night in March in recognition of Women's History Month. All proceeds from this year's event will benefit Resonance Network. 

 

Here's how it works:

1) Get five of your friends, co-workers, or relatives together and register your team by clicking the "Register Now" button at the bottom of any page. Then, click on the "Donate" button. 2) Arrive on Friday, March 8 before 5:30pm for music, food, and sample trivia questions. 3) That's it! It's just that simple. Upon arrival each team will get a copy of the rules, score sheets, and information on purchasing "Doras"- stickers used to substitute for challenging questions (teams can purchase up to five). 

Here are the abbreviated rules: 

1. There will be four (4) rounds and a match sheet, each consisting of ten (10) questions.  Each correct answer is worth one point.  The table with the most points after four rounds wins.

2. Judges’ answers will be final.  

3. Each question will be read twice.  

4. No reference materials will be permitted (including phones). 

5. Scores will be updated at the end of each round.

6. Answers should be as specific as possible.  

7. Fun is mandatory.  

 

Past topics have included science and nature; arts, music, & literature; significant novels; pop art; activism & international affairs; American politics; philosophy and religion; sports; world leaders; and current events. Categories vary from year-to-year. Following are five sample questions from past years: 

 

• English author and illustrator, Beatrix Potter, is most recognized for what animal story published in 1902?  

• Wangari Maathai won the Nobel Prize for Peace in 2004 for her work to reverse deforestation.  Of what nationality is Maathai?

• The Patsy T. Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act is most commonly known by what name? 

• Bette Nesmith Graham, an American typist and commercial artist, struck a tremendously important blow against typos in 1951, when she invented what in the confines of her kitchen?

How do I form a team? 

You can form a team in different ways.  Talk to your friends, coworkers, and family about putting together a team of five.  If you don’t have the connections to form a team, come as an individual, and we can add you to a team. 

 

Can I have more than five people on my team?

Unfortunately, most of the tables are not big enough to accommodate more than five seats. If you have a sixth person and would like for them to join a team, let us know before the event and we'll try to connect them with another team of less than five participants.

How do I register a team?

To register a team, go to our "How?" page and click on the button that says “Donate”. Follow the instructions on the registration form. At the bottom of the page, you'll be directed to a payment link. Once on the payment page, scroll down to "Or enter your own amount:" and fill in your registration cost (plus 'Doras' if you would like). If you prefer not to pay through the website, but wish to reserve a spot (and pay at the event), please fill out the registration form without clicking on the payment link and send an email to info@whmtrivia.org.

Are there COVID precautions being taken?

We understand that the pandemic is still impacting our ability to be in community. We postpone this event in 2021 & 2022. Last year we decided people were more comfortable attending events like this and regrouped. However, we still honor the need to take precautions such as providing masks, hand sanitizers, and well-ventilated spaces. Please let us know what we can do to maximize your comfort. 

 

Does all the money go to Resonance Network?

Liberation in Action, Inc is donating the space, marketing, and supplies. All funds received go directly to Resonance Network and their community working for a world beyond violence. 

 

Is my ticket price tax deductible? 

Section 170 of the Code provides for allowance of deductions for charitable contributions,
subject to certain requirements and limitations. To the extent here relevant a charitable
contribution is defined by that section as "a contribution or gift to or for the use of" certain
specified types of organizations. This code applies to this event (not including food or beverages you purchase). You will receive an email after making your donation or, if you pay at the event using cash, check, or app, you will receive a paper receipt. 

 

Is this event child-appropriate? 

There are no age requirements to attend this event. It is up to individual families to decide if the themes and content are appropriate for children. For specific questions, don't hesitate to reach out to info@whmtrivia.org.

Will there be food available? 

Busboys and Poets has a full menu from which to choose. You can view the menu at https://www.busboysandpoets.com/menu/lunch-dinner-menu/. Please note that food & beverage costs are not included with admission.

Can I pay by credit card at the event?

Yes. Onsite registration, food, and Dora's (to help answer questions) can all be purchased using credit cards. However, feel free to also bring your check book and/or cash if you'd like to make an additional donation.
